Measles has reared its ugly head again. It’s spreading around the country, and we’ve had our first death, a young child, for the first time in 10 years.
But that’s not all that’s going around.
Yesterday, I was at the oncologist (a regular checkup, all okay) and everyone was masked. The staff were all in serious masks, not those blue paper ones that have no protective impact at all. I asked my doctor, and she said that last week, they had to send 3 people (2 patients, 1 visitor in the waiting room) in ambulances to the ER for breathing problems. Likely flu or Covid, but she expects that measles will show up soon.
Worm Brain wrote this week that:
Vaccines not only protect individual children from measles, but also contribute to community immunity, protecting those who are unable to be vaccinated due to medical reasons. Source.
But then he said vaccination was a personal decision. And went on to recommend Vitamin A as a treatment option.
Wrong, wrong, wrong.
Getting vaccinated for measles is something that’s more of a moral obligation than a personal decision. Understanding, of course, that some people, such as cancer patients and other with some serious medical conditions, cannot be vaccinated. When 95% of the population is vaccinated, there is herd immunity to protect the medically fragile, along with the babies too young to be vaccinated.
My guess is that sometime this year, we’ll lose our certification for having eliminated measles, which the United States attained in 2000. I hope that at that point, Americans will need to show proof of vaccination or titers to travel to European and other countries where measles is actually eliminated.
And then there’s the Vitamin A recommendation. Just so you know the truth: in places where there is severe malnutrition, Vitamin A supplementation is good all around, and helps keep measles, and other diseases, less deadly, because it improves immune function. HOWEVER, in a place like the United States where virtually no one is Vitamin A deficient, it will have no impact on an active case of measles. Not to mention that too much Vitamin A is really bad for you. Read down to the “coma and death” part of the link1.
The real reason I’ve posted this is because there are vaccination schedule recommendations for both adults and children. I am attaching them so that you can open each link and then **DOWNLOAD** the information to your hard drive. I don’t trust that Worm Brain will allow this information to remain indefinitely on the CDC site, so grab it now.
Please be aware that even if you are an adult, you may need vaccines beyond those you were given as a child. For example, you need a TDAP booster every 10 years.
In addition, protection can wane over time, and a booster is indicated. If you are unsure if you have adequate protection, you can be tested for titers, which indicate your level of protection for most, not all, of the diseases for which you can be vaccinated2.
If you receive a major insult to your immune system (cancer, transplant, certain medications for other conditions) you should have titers accomplished, and you may well require additional vaccinations.
As an aside, in canceling the flu meeting, it seems very possible that we will have no flu vaccine this fall. There will be a number of options if this happens. First, stay home at all times. Or leave the house in a respirator. Me? If I can get enough people, I’m going to rent a bus so we can all go to Canada for flu and Covid vaccines, any other vaccines we need, and to pick up any necessary medicines that Worm Brain outlaws. This will involve a certain amount of coordination with Canada, but I believe it will be worth the hassle. Plus, we can sing on the bus, and share good snacks. And since bird flu is getting worse, and the fascist regime may well claw back the funding the Biden Administration gave to Moderna for an mRNA vaccine, perhaps we can get that vaccine in Canada, too.
As we thread our way through the horror of the Worm Brain approach to health, it’s critical that we do what we can to keep ourselves, and our loved ones as safe as possible.
Stay safe. Mask up.
Then again, what do you expect from the regime that brought you bleach and ivermectin during the pandemic?
Titers are unavailable for flu and pneumonia, for example.
I'm immune compromised having lost my spleen in an auto accident 30 years ago. I spoke to my Endo about whether my measles vax was still good since I was born in 1955. She spoke to an infectious doc and he said to get a Titer test done. Because the measles vax is live, it matters if you don't have a spleen. Glad I have such a good doc and good insurance (so far).
I may take that bus trip with you for vaccines.
