I am thrilled that Joe Biden pardoned his son. ENOUGH!!!!!

You are spot on!! I’m not surprised he pardoned him with what’s about to happen. I’m so tired of the hypocrisy of the party that just elected a convicted felon. The lack of self awareness continues to be mind numbing.

Rachel Maddow did an excellent show on this last night. Here it is if you are inclined. I'm glad Joe put family over country....he gave his life to us.

I agree. Jessica. Hypocrisy is alive and well. There isn’t a parent out there that wouldn’t have done the very same thing given the same circumstances.

ABSOLUTELY!!!! And not just a parent -- ANY DECENT PERSON!!! (And Joe Biden is one of the most decent people going.)

I’m not sure exactly when Biden made the no pardon pledge but the recent political shift and Trump’s appointments of revenge focussed toadies actually necessitated a change on Biden’s part. It seems very likely that this crew of horrid people would use Hunter Biden and persecute him as entertainment for their base and distraction from their own inevitable failings. Turns out tariffs raise inflation? Let’s have a show trial. Ukraine falls? Let’s create some charges around Hunter Biden suggesting corruption so we can say Ukraine didn’t deserve to exist. When Biden made that pledge I don’t imagine he believed we would have a criminals in the White House. When the facts change, and especially when they change quickly and radically, decisions based on those facts must adapt to the new reality.

It was a one-on-one interview with David Muir of ABC months back. And he reiterated it several times since then. But you're absolutely correct that the landscape has changed.

I am so glad that President Biden pardoned Hunter- it makes me happy. I know that addicts don’t have the focus to deal with forms and admit addiction.

The people who prosecuted know that too.

Expand full comment

ME TOO!!! And they knew -- they prosecuted him just because he was the son of the president they despised. SHAME ON THEM.

I agree with you 100%. The Rs' treatment of Biden's surviving son was just cruel and intended to torture the President. For the past couple of weeks, I've been saying that he needed to pardon his son and thus take away the new administration's access to him. Now that he's done so, there are more things he needs to do before he's out of office. Some we're hearing about; I just hope there are more that we will not hear about but will protect us.

And yes, I was shocked that people who should know better slammed Joe for his action to protect his son. Could not bear to watch.

I had a lift in my step yesterday morning, an elation that I haven’t felt in quite a while. A nice surprise to start the day.

So disappointed in Robert Reich for his stupid assessment of this pardon.

Agreed. And he's one of many.

Everyone seems to have forgotten how this all started. Abby Lowell made a deal for a guilty plea on the gun charge (and as Hunter later claimed to the tax charges for which he had yet to be indicted). At his sentencing hearing on the gun charge, the Judge asked Hunter if he agreed to plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge and specified non confinement punishments therefor whereupon Hunter complained that the plea deal also covered the pending tax charges. The prosecutor, feeling the expanded political heat, whatever the negotiations and actual agreement may have been, denied Hunter's claim. The Judge then rejected the plea deal and set the case for trial.

I didn't forget -- I just wanted to write about the reaction which was horrific.
