I certainly do admire your determination in the face of perceived awful adversity (and it is not without evidentiary support) but I (perhaps foolishly) remain optimistic that America will yet recover its senses and throw the bums out. What you and others like you are doing will help to make that happen.
It isn't "determination." It honestly isn't. That sense of "doing" is inculcated into my very being.
I think I told you, but I can't remember if I did. I got sick on Monday night, and landed in the ER at about 3 am - on the Tuesday three weeks before the 2020 election. I was in bad shape. There were about 6 people working on me - putting in lines, asking questions, drawing blood, making evaluations, and they explained I'd be staying in the hospital - that I needed a procedure quickly - that there was internal bleeding, all sorts of talking -- and finally, they asked me if I had any questions -- and because of when this was -- I needed to know if they were all registered to vote, and had a voting plan. It's not what I do, it's what I am. While I was in the hospital, I asked EVERY person with whom I came in contact how they were voting -- I arranged for mail in ballots -- I sent my hospitalist to do an early vote in another county - my real concern was that I had my ballot, and I needed to get out of the hospital so I could fill it out, and get it to a drop box. Since it was early in the Covid pandemic, Tim couldn't come to the hospital, so I needed to get out so I could vote.
I predict a lot of buyers remorse. My best guess is that starting on 20 January, they begin the roundups. They won't waste time on actual criminals, since they'll need a lot of people to take them down, and there aren't many of them. But quick and dirty, path of least resistance, will be raids on poultry and meat processing plants, as well as farms. That should enable them to round up half a million people within a month.
While the lawsuits are ongoing, and the State Department is trying to get other countries to allow our planes to land (which won't be easy) - these folks will be NOT going to work. The impact to prices will be pretty quick, especially if they implement tariffs the first week.
Then, the blow back will come less from people like me with overall plans, but from the MAGA minions who REALLY can't afford things and voted for the Orange Menace BECAUSE they wanted deportations and tariffs.
And simultaneously will come the downward spiral of the markets, along with productivity and GNP. Not to mention the increase in unemployment.
BRAVO!!! You are inspiring as always, Jessica. We will not go backwards. I will not go backwards. I will keep on fighting and advocating for Freedom & Democracy in America. We live in painful times...I am very sad about this.
Thank you Karen, for standing shoulder to shoulder with me. Thank you for all you do. Don't be sad -- be ANGRY -- and turn that anger into action! It's how we'll bring light to the coming darkness.
You certainly have helped me dissipate my despair. In discussing the pressing need for my gay granddaughter and her partner to get passports, Nola responded, " Grommy, will we know to get out in time?"
Your messaging is inspiring my efforts. Thank you!💙
Thanks Robin! As for Nola - the question is not "when" but "where". I forget exactly how old she is, but if she can get into a university on a student visa asap, that would be a good approach. She can leave as a tourist, but wouldn't be able to work -- so that's my best recommendation.
You have to consider visas, and working papers. I have friends and family who have been planning to move, and I promise you, it's not just "get on a plane and go" -- there are a lot of things to nail down. Bank accounts, taxes, Social Security -- PLEASE look into it before you go. Otherwise there is a lot of risk. GOOD LUCK! (Although I really hope you will stay and fight the good fight with me!!!)

One girl's thoughts.
Carlos Casteneda made huge impact on me, too!
YAY!! Another Castaneda fan! Have you found your spot?

My son Martin lives in Spain and is ready for us all to move!
