For all of you who doubted that the Orange Menace wouldn’t completely upend the balance of votes in the US House of Representatives, he just nominated Matt Gaetz for AG.
Left out the good news: Gets resigned in order to have House ethics proceedings automatically ceased as he is no longer a House member and scuttlebutt has it that he may not get the AG job.
He didn't resign until 2 hours after I wrote the post. The Senate will NEVER confirm him - especially after the House Ethics report gets out (either via leaking soon, or as part of the background check) -- HOWEVER -- he would be a recess appointment, unless Thune never takes the Senate out of session (Harry Reid left a great handbook for that).
From what I understand, Susie Wiles is opposed to the Gaetz choice. Others will be too, within the inner circle. It's not just that he's a bad choice -- it's that he's the worst possible choice. Even Rudy would be better.
I've decided that I somehow slipped into the wrong timeline. It's the stupid timeline where intelligent people are suppressed and wealthy, selfish, ignorant a$$holes have all the power to go with their money.
I said to my husband (my resident poly sci professor) that he will try to have these nominees not resign from Congress until their replacements are elected. My husband said “not possible”. I’ll believe it when I see it.
Each member of Congress has a vote. There’s a Speaker of the House election on 3 January. Someone will win. Then, that party will make the rules for the congressional session. Then they vote on the legislation that clears committee.
So…say there are 220 GOP and 215 Democrats. If 4 republicans leave, that means 216 to 215, and the GOP can’t hold their caucus together….so they can’t pass legislation.
Notwithstanding, this administration’s tag line needs to be “We’re not really a government, we just intend to play one on TV”.
I love that!

I just read that 2 min ago.

It is dystopian.
Won’t happen-just did it to distract from the Senate getting behind Thune instead of Rick Scott.
And then he nominated Matt Gaetz, who immediately resigned from Congress.

Matt Gaetz resigned a few minutes after he was nominated.
Please explain again what that means for our side? The numbers. Thanks...

Make sense?
