First, your 3000 words, 1500 words, and 1000 words should be published.
Second, the Democratic Party IS part of the problem. Those who are politically savvy - or at least somewhat aware - want a fight. Bernie and AOC are drawing huge crowds because THEY are leading a charge, while Schummer, et al, are sitting with their thumbs up their ass. Saying that "things would have been worse" if the government closed down doesn't resonate with anyone because things are extremely fucking bad right now - and they voted to NOT fight it! And the rest of our Democratic "leaders" refuse to call him on it.
The Republicans stopped playing by the rules YEARS ago. It's time for Democrats to stop trying to play nice and play by the rules if they ever want to win another election.
The fight going on in the Democratic Party right now is not between hard left, left and moderate. It’s between those who want to fight and those who want to cave. And Team Fight stretches across all ideological aspects of the Party. Misread this at your own peril."
The Democratic Party is a LARGE part of the problem. But the solution is more elusive than fight or capitulate.
I struggle with this. Both at the national level, and right here with our local and state retention elections in PA in 2025.
I know you read my stuff everyday, and I've been saying "take the the streets" for months now. We need to get to Serbia's level of engagement.
But here's the thing: while we can pressure the Senate Democrats to stand tall in opposition, to preclude cloture votes that would bring horrible legislation to the floor, we need to convince both Democratic AND Republican House members to just say no. That involves messaging, and that's where the problem comes in. It's thousands of words, and I'll get them published....
First, we need to convince Democrats, because, if we can't convince Democrats, we sure as hell ain't gonna convince Republicans.
This vote to confirm Trump's Deputy Secretary of State was yesterday *after* it was shown Trump's totally incompetent national security "leadership" was sharing military secrets to a reporter on an open-source app!
I share your dismay. These people should certainly know better, and their capriciousness makes them completely untrustworthy -- like they rotate between themselves about who will be "today's bad guy".
When I read your first sentence, I thought you were talking about "regular people" and not elected officials. There's an ongoing conversation about whether to primary virtually everyone at the House and Senate levels. There are those in the party who want to see them replaced with Bernie-AOC types. But to get them through a primary, you need Democrats, especially Super Dems, who tend to be more moderate and less willing to move left. And then you have to figure out how to message to the non-Democrats who will put them over the top if they win their primaries.
I have bumper stickers for sale that say "Against a government by and for Billionaire$". Will bring them to the April 4th rally at the Old Courthouse steps in West Chester on 4/5 at 1:00pm
Shirley, you made my day. My mom was both my greatest critic, and my most ardent fan (moms can do that....) and if she were still alive, she'd love that someone appreciated that she drilled "sourcing" into me when I was young.

I already bought one! Great idea to bring them! See you on THE FIFTH (not the 4th),
I thought we'd all be on Library of Congress by now. It's been decades!
As a Retired High School Librarian, I love that you always reference your sources and legitimatize your information. You make your mother proud!

Fight on while we have the chance bearing in mind that they have the guns.
We HAVE to. Even understanding the risk of danger.
