This week there have been a bunch of new subscribers to my blog. WELCOME! If you’re new, this will be your first “Friday Potpourri”.
Throughout the week, I post on politics, and related topics, including Action Items. Some posts are long and take a long time to research and properly source. Some are more of the “quick hit” variety. On Fridays, it’s generally a compilation of things that amuse me, or just random thoughts. Now you know.
Let’s start with turnabout is fair play.
You may remember the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting:
Staffs of The New York Times and The Washington Post
For deeply sourced, relentlessly reported coverage in the public interest that dramatically furthered the nation’s understanding of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and its connections to the Trump campaign, the President-elect’s transition team and his eventual administration.
You may also remember that the Orange Menace sued the Times and the Post for defamation, and lost bigly. Undaunted, he is suing the Pulitzer Prize Board for “conspiring” to continue the “lie”. The suit was certified to go forward last year in Florida. (As Tim Russert would say “Florida! Florida! Florida!”)
Here’s the fun part. The REALLY fun part. Quiz question: what is one of the biggest reasons the Convicted Felon uses to delay cases? Right: the case would interfere with his ability to presidential things.
Pulitzer certainly wants the suit to continue, because they’re going to win, and then they can countersue for damages. But they need a pause. How?
While I hardly ever use his name, face it, they out-trumped Trump. You know you’re chuckling.
Von Shitzenpants wants to be added to Mount Rushmore. Anna Paulina Luna (FL - insane) submitted a bill to this effect. Not making this up. You may remember that before she was elected to Congress, she liked modeling MAGA swimwear. No worries, it’s not going to get through the House.
There’s a joint resolution which would allow him to run for a third term, which is designed as a Constitutional amendment. It’s courtesy of Andy Ogles (TN - lunatic). Andy is none too bright, and also under investigation for campaign finance violations.
Let’s think about ALL THE WAYS this isn’t going to happen. First, for a Constitutional amendment to be enacted, it needs to be passed by 2/3 of both the House and Senate. Then, it needs to be approved by 38 of the current US states. It’s the math, Andy, you don’t have the numbers. Finally, that overweight, junk food-addicted, Adderall-dependent, dementia patient needs to live through the next 4 years1.
Continuing on with moronic members of Congress, we come to Nancy Mace (SC - anti-trans bathroom activist). She is concerned that the one trans woman in the House, Sarah McBride (DE-Democrat) might end up in a woman’s bathroom, so she came up with a bill banning trans women from using “the ladies room”. As you can imagine, already there are problems since Nancy, and House mate Lauren Bobert (CO - hand job), accused a cis woman of being a man. Not making this up.
But that’s all in the past, like by weeks. This week, the first woman graduate of The Citadel said:
For those of us mere mortals living on Earth 1, this is actually reasonable in terms of women being allowed in previously male-only universities, military academies, the military, corporate America. You know EVERYWHERE.
The humor comes from the fact that accepting women at The Citadel means DEI admissions. Don’t believe me? Read how she was trolled by the entire right wing here.
This makes me laugh because EVERY SINGLE House member who is not a cis white guy is going to be able to be trolled for being a beneficiary of DEI. These people DO NOT THINK THINGS THROUGH.
From the rumor mill: As you certainly heard, Senator Gary Peters is not running for re-election for his Michigan seat next year. Governor Whitmer has implied she won’t be running, and rumor has it that Pete Buttigieg is seriously considering it.
I saw this on Twitter, it amused me, and so, here you go…how many can you name?
I’ll be back on Sunday, writing about playing the long game. In the interim, do something nice for yourself!
This is why I always write about the “fascist regime” - it’s not just him, it’s all of those MAGA crazies. We need to stand up to THE ACTIONS as opposed to the guy.
Don't blame me; I heard it somewhere.
Here' why "Common Sense" President Don Dumkoff determined that the tragic D.C. aircraft was caused by Presidents Obama's and Biden's DEI policies: the Helicopter involved was a BLACKHAWK.
