You cannot reason people out of positions they did not reason themselves.

And as Will Rodgers said:

"There are three kinds of men. The ones that learn by reading. The few who learn by observation.

The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence for themselves."

I had a similar conversation with one of my neighbors who spouted the same fox talking points. Instead of the job loss issue, she was upset about grocery prices. As we went through her issues point by point, she nodded in agreement with me that some of what she was saying may not be factual, but then she finished with "I dunno, there's just something about her I just don't like." And that's when my heart stopped beating because I heard that so much back in 2016...

There is SO MUCH misogyny. It's heartbreaking. If Kamala Harris were a man, she'd be trouncing Trump everywhere.

I think I canvassed this same man a few weeks ago! And his wife mentioned how much money she made in the stock market under Trump. When we pointed out that the market is much higher now under Biden/Harris so they must be making even MORE now, no acknowledgement. There are some people who have somehow developed deep grievances, I think, and need to place blame outside of themselves.

If it's the same couple -- I doubt her recollections since I looked her up on LinkedIn, and the company for which she worked was doing great until 2015, when the stock dropped precipitously and has never recovered -- she wouldn't have made money under the Trump administration if a lot of her holdings were in company stock. And I don't know ANYONE who made more money during that administration. When I've asked people to call their brokers and get back to me -- they are shocked at the difference.

But yeah -- blame. Gotta put it somewhere if you're that kind of person.

Actually, he sounds like a basic, run-of-the-mill racist. And I'd love to have seen the interview where he was told that he was perfect for the job but he was white and they were forced to hire a less-qualified person of color. I doubt he was applying for his normal field of white hood washing and starching.

He doesn't need to work because his wife is making a good salary. But, he's feeling emasculated because he can't find the job he wants working the hours/schedule he wants. He's white - he shouldn't have to work 2nd shift...

And a toxic teenaged white boy at (most likely) Conestoga?!? I could see it if he was spouting off like daddy. Pray there are no guns in the house - really.

I HEAR YOU. And yes, I was taken aback by the "toxic" comment. I don't know how "toxic" he could be a school with that sports team problem with broomsticks, but I digress.

Looked his wife up in LinkedIn - she's not making a good salary, she's making a TERRIFIC salary. That's not in her profile, but I was once up for a job there, and they pay VERY well. It was during the pandemic and they wouldn't let me work from home, so, no giant salary for me.
