First, great apologies. If I owe you an email, a Signal response….I am behind due to a (rare) intersection of two major projects at work that both demand my attention.
So for today: HURRAH FOR HARVARD! They stood up to the fascist regime and said they will NOT be cowed, even if they lose Federal funding. Full letter. The university is floating bonds, potentially to replace the shortfall of grants.
And let’s remember that Harvard predates the founding of the United States, as it dates from 1636. They know things.
May other universities stand up, too. PLEASE!!!
Yes, yes, we need vocational education, and we need better primary education, and not everyone should go to college, but we NEED the people who end up contributing to science, medicine, law, etc. etc. etc. and are able to do so because of their college and post-collegiate education.
I assume you’ve heard, but VonShitzenpants wants to tax Harvard as a “political entity” and not as the non-profit the institution it actually is. When this goes to court (and if the Convicted Felon tries it, it will) I hope Harvard uses the same lawyers to defend the institution as it did for the letter. The lawyers? William Burck, who previously defended Steve Bannon, and (unless this has changed since it was announced in January) the current ethics advisor for the Trump Organization. I know, you really thought I made that one up. Nope. Also Robert Hur, you remember, the guy who, as a DoJ Attorney, did the investigation into President Biden regarding classified documents.
I’m sure you’ve heard that the Orange Menace had his annual physical. It’s not to be trusted as it showed his height as 6’3” and his weight as 224. Not to mention, they attribute his “good health”, in part, to his “frequent victories in golf events”. Call me crazy, but I think the health benefits of golf are from the playing and not whether or not one wins. Plus, he cheats.
As for height and weight? Thank you NYPD. (I cropped the photo so we don’t have to look at him.)
And another apology…
From the first days after the election, I kept writing, and saying, over and over, that while there were dark times ahead, and they would win battles, eventually we will win the war because in the end, good triumphs over evil.
I still believe that.
I believe we need to be in the streets, and work to get our people elected this year and next, and keep at our currently elected officials. I am walking my talk.
But some days, like all humans, it’s a little too much for me. I write my posts the night before so that they are in your inbox to start the day. I endeavor to be informative, with things you likely don’t find elsewhere. Oh, and snark.
Tonight (Tuesday), though, instead of researching and writing, and responding to what I owe some of you…I am spending the evening watching the first season of Cheers. I need the break - and I like seeing the hair and clothes and settings and whatnot of the world I used to know. Plus, I need some laughs. I’ve watched a few episodes, and they really did make me laugh. If you have recommendations for other things that would make me laugh, PLEASE leave them in the comments.
I’ll try harder on Wednesday night to bring you insight on Thursday.
If you have Netflix, the funniest show ever is Derry Girls. And surely with your interest I government, you've watched every episode of Parks and Rec.
