As y’all know, I like to do funny bits on Fridays. As I had threatened in my Wednesday post, I had planned to relate the VITO!! story, and perhaps I shall next Friday. But Thursday got away from me, and so, sadly, dear readers, I’m going to tell you all about my Thursday.
I had plans. PECO had informed our neighborhood that they would be shutting off our electricity from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. They informed us last week, so we could be prepared. And prepared we were! BTW, PECO redid our community’s electrical system five years ago, but something didn’t work out for them, so they came back this year for “3 weeks” in March. It is now September.
My plan was to work from my daughter’s house, do my daily stand-up with my team, and work on the script I was supposed to have last Friday, and turn it into a learn-by-doing video. We had dinner reservations at a place where I could get a lobster roll. MMM. My husband would be with the dogs during the outage. It was a good plan, but it was not to be.
First, the restaurant called and said despite the fact that I’d made the reservation properly through the online system, we couldn’t be seated on the deck as there was going to be a “special event”. Would we eat indoors? Had to say no because, no immune system.
I was able to work the morning at my daughters, but not the script, which arrived at 2 p.m. today, instead of last week. So that gave me time to stop at the Starbucks for my free birthday drink. Happily, EVERY worker (and the 4 people drinking there) will be voting straight blue tickets. Next stop, the WaWa for my free soft pretzel. Again, I checked all the workers, and everyone is all set for November 5th. A guy in the parking lot was questionable, but when he espied my “Keep Kamala and Carry On” button, he relaxed and said, “Glad we’re on the same side.”
Our power wasn’t out all day, so I came home and discussed the upcoming overnight outage with the actual electrician who is taking down about 2,000 houses in the development on Sunday night.
Spent a long time on the phone with Fiona’s vet. She will be voting blue in November.
Fiona is 13 1/2, and we LOVE the princess. Body and soul. She is ill. The vet said she needed an ultrasound, and potentially a biopsy. So my next call was to the hospital, where I was able to get an ultrasound appointment an hour later. Fiona was a real trooper. Everyone loves Fiona. My husband and I were in a little room when the tech took her, and then they came back, and we needed to wait for the vet who would provide the results. The tech was a young woman. She was registered to vote. She was very hesitant to discuss for whom she’d be voting, if at all. “Have you heard of Project 2025?”, I asked. After going through health care and education, I talked about LGBTQIA people, and she turned over her badge to show a rainbow heart. She’s all set now.
We heard Fiona’s results, and while it’s very serious, it will likely be able to be managed with medication and no surgery. We should know the treatment plan tomorrow.
It seemed a good idea to stop at Wendy’s on the way home. The dogs deserved burgers. I had my standard conversation where I explained that I wanted 3 plain burgers with nothing on them, I didn’t even need buns. “Do you want cheese?” he asked. They ALWAYS ask that for some reason.
My counter boy gave me such a look and said “You gotta be an idiot if you’re not voting blue in November.”
Between Wendy’s and home is a place that sells lobster rolls. I left my husband and Fiona in the car, and went in for what should have been a really short amount of time. It doesn’t take that long to make a lobster roll. When I got back out to the car 15 minutes later, my husband said, “She wasn’t registered, was she?” (He knows me so well.) It looks like I will be getting another lobster roll next week, to make sure the counter girl is all set.
Good day? Bad day? Doesn’t matter — it’s always a good day to find voters!
I’m off tomorrow, back on Sunday.
Atta way. Hope the meds work for Fiona.
