Friday Potpourri: 6 December 2024

When I wrote my screed the other day on the Biden pardon, I forgot to add: “and he should preemptively pardon every single person for all crimes past and present that the new fascist regime will plan on indicting”. Get a large beverage and peruse the initial list.

The DOGE boys are floating the idea of doing away with the time change. This makes me laugh — it’s a Congressional undertaking, and Congress has never been able to agree on whether to go with Standard Time or Daylight Time. I love that the boys are wasting time on this — the more time they spend on time, the less time they have to think about more impactful things.

People have been asking me how I feel about the cabinet nominees. Being “uniquely unqualified” is a feature not a bug. This covers it:

I think this would be a better cabinet for the new fascist regime. These kids understand the assignment, follow the rules, and just plain get along. I’m not joking - THIS WOULD BE A BETTER CABINET!!

It’s holiday season. My rule for holidays is that if there is a cookie involved, I AM IN!

Our dogs have (I kid you not) gluten-free, salmon-based treats in a dog Advent calendar from Trader Joe’s. We have to open the doors, because the dates are out of order and neither Fiona nor Alex knows how to read. They’re loving it.

I’ve mentioned that I live across the street from an antisemite. She harasses me if I decorate my house for Channukah, but she goes all out with a creche, lights, all sorts of stuff. I made this creche for her. Think she’ll like it? I had to order those personalized Coca-Cola bottles special.

Seriously, it’s holiday season. And while cookies are great - as are all the celebrations - please remember that there are millions of people (some in your neighborhood) who will not be having a good time.

This may be their first year without a loved one who passed. They may not be able to afford gifts. For a lot of foster kids, everything they own fits in a brown paper supermarket bag, and they carry it from house to house. The list goes on.

So PLEASE, if you can, reach out to someone nearby who might be sad and lonely. There’s room at your table for one more.

If you can afford it, give to local charities that are impactful in feeding hungry people and animals.

Check out the boards: near me is a senior center where members post what they want. Often it’s things like aspirin, socks, and gloves.

There’s a toy drive at every mall in America.

Many companies have programs where you can sponsor a family in need.

This will be a cold winter - not just the weather, but because of the fascists.
