A Voter Engagement Story
As I always say, “elections are won house by house, person by person, block by block.” And I believe that we ALL need to work our neighborhoods — however, that doesn’t mean there aren’t voters you can find outside of your neighborhood.
A couple weeks ago, I had to take my husband so he could drop off his car to the mechanic. Nearby is a Starbucks (no judgement, please, it’s a rare treat) and so I ran in to get my favourite blonde latte, extra hot, largest one, with two pumps vanilla. I asked the woman who took my order whether she was planning to vote in November, and she said (be still my heart) “Roevember is coming, I wouldn’t miss it.”
I moved down the counter and the young man behind the counter asked how I was doing, and I asked if he was registered to vote (he seemed to potentially be underage.) He said he was registered in California, he came here to start college. I explained we needed to get him registered. The manager heard this, stopped what she was doing, and said to him: “You’re not registered!?!?!?” Conversation ensued and he promised to go change his driver’s license and register to vote at the same time. I told him that I’d be back.
This morning, I went back to the Starbucks and guess who is our latest registered Democrat!
Next up, my co-worker who thinks voting third party is okay. She has no idea what is coming her way!
GO GET A VOTER!!! TODAY!!!
